中国制造业“转型”而未“升级”的一个重要原因，是中国制造业服务化或者服务型制造发展程度不够。其中一个重要制约因素就是以往存在的技术瓶颈。比如，在信息技术还不发达的时候，制造企业很难监测自家设备的运营状况，也很难掌握个体用户对产品的使用状况。但随着移动互联网、大数据、云计算、物联网、人工智能等信息技术的逐步成熟和产业利用，使这些都成为可能，极大地推动了制造业的服务化转型，新商业模式、新业态的创新层出不穷。
