中国这几年信息化的发展已经出现很多概念和热点，从云计算到物联网，智慧城市到大数据，到现在的人工智能这一波热浪。这些热浪一定要落地下来，为制造业服务。对于中国人工智能的发展而言，最重要的问题还是要解决中国的制造业发展问题。如果制造业的智能化上不去，中国国民经济的脊梁就不够坚实。

制造业信息化的发展，主要是围绕着企业的业务运行而展开。首先是企业内部信息化，见图1。这包括“四化一再造”，也就是研发信息化、产品信息化、生产信息化、管理信息化以及业务流程和组织再造。其中产品信息化，主要是指带有嵌入式系统的产品，其复杂程度各不相同。理解产品信息化，对理解当下的智能制造，非常重要。
